Our communities gather a couple of times each year to celebrate the healing mercy and strength of Christ in the communal Mass and Anointing of the Sick. This year our fall Mass will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Spirit. A light supper prepared by the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus will follow.
Jesus, who suffered and died on the cross to heal and redeem us, knows firsthand the experience of suffering. He has instituted this sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick especially intending to strengthen those Baptized Christians who are being tried by illness or old age.
All are welcome to join us, and I encourage you to help bring those who may have difficulty attending to share in this visible sign of a caring and praying community of faith in Christ.
The special grace of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has as its effects:
—the uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the whole Church;
—the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of illness or old age;
—the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the sacrament of Penance;
—the restoration of health, if it is conducive to the salvation of his soul;
—the preparation for passing over to eternal life.
